Congressman: "I Fear…We Will Have Many More Muslims In The United States"

'In a letter to constituents, Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) warns "American citizens" to "wake up" or "there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office."'

We have a Freedom OF Religion in this country. There is no constitutional guarantee on "Freedom FROM Religion". I keep wondering why everyone thinks that religion, and the people's exercise thereof needs to be restricted. The Constitution guarantees the government will not put together a single "national" religion, and it guarantees that everyone can remain free in their beliefs. Unfortunately for some, those religious beliefs may upset some people, TOUGH.

It is also my firm belief that the government NOR schools should be barred from teaching or using religious materials in schools or public places. They should just not make a habit of preaching or siding one way or another. In public education we do a disservice to our kids because we cannot contextualize religion and modern history. We can't even go back in time and talk about how religion got us to where we are today, even though it has played a huge part in history. Take the Muslim religion, or the Jewish religion and the Christian religion. They have played a huge part in history. Jesus Christ was a huge figure in history, we have even modified our calendar after his death.

My point is that we need to take religion for what it is worth, a part of our lives. It serves no purpose to ignore it, or sweep it under the table. We certainly don't want to open the doors for a one-world religion as the UN is trying to invoke. We all need to support people's exercise of religion, but you DON'T have to agree with each particular religious viewpoint.
